wow, i've lived a pretty full life, so far. i got a c! and obviously fashion holds nothing for me. i've completed fashion. and i'm spent.

as of last thursday i now own a kitchenaid pro 600 stand mixer, a set of calphalon katana series knives (just the japanese ones, aka nakiri, honesuki, and two santokus, 5" and 7"), metalocalypse season 2, a frontalini learner accordion (my mother's from about 50 years ago), a painting of the champs-elysees and the arc de triomphe that was my grandmother's for the last 40 years or so, and some skinny black ties. i'd say christmas was good.

i've already put the mixer to good use. i've made three buttermilk chess pies and bought the grinder attachment to grind some venison for venison chili (it was a big hit). i made chicken pot pie last night, but i cheated and used store bought pie crust. i bought a french style rolling pin last night, though, so next time it'll be all home made (i hate making pie crust).

anybody want to loan me a few thousand dollars so can buy the mini of my dreams?

Nice. I got the exact same percentage though with some substantial variation in categories.

I hope you enjoy the mixer. I have the same one and it has been a joy for me.

No, I just have an older table mounted crank one. Let me know how it is if you get it. I am always curious about cooking gear.

Oooh, how are those knives? My parents very kindly gave me a knife set not too long back, and EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM HAS RIDGES! They never need sharpening, but they're so infuriating because it's impossible to cut meat straight. And shaving it? I might as well use me teeth.

those knives are really, really nice. i have a wusthof 8" chef i love and have used for years, but i think the calphalons are actually sharper and better balanced. if you're thinking about getting one, make sure you have a good local knife sharpener you can take it to every year or two, and invest in a good honing steel (by good i mean one that gets the job done, usually around $20).

if i were going to buy one knife, it would have been the 5" santoku. the nakiri is indispensable, though, if you're chopping up a lot of vegetables every day. and the honesuki cuts through meats and sinews like butter. and it doubles as a paring knife.

if you really want, i can check and see if linens and things has any left. that's where i got all mine for 50% off. gotta love going out of business sales.
